The Lens Through Which We See -Part 2

In Part 1 of this message, I shared about my cataract surgery and how the replacement of lenses in my eyes gave me incredibly clear vision again. That replacement is like becoming a new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). In this continuation, I want to take a look at the gift of sight and how light plays a huge part in that.

Have you ever wondered if you can see without light? Try this simple task to get your answer:

If you were to turn off the room lights for a moment and then cover all the windows with black construction paper to prevent any entry of light into the room, then you would notice that nothing in the room would be visible. There would be objects present that were capable of being seen. There would be eyes present that would be capable of detecting light from those objects. There would be a brain present that would be capable of deciphering the information sent to it. But there would be no light!

The bottom line is: without light, there would be no sight. The visual ability of humans and other animals is the result of the complex interaction of light, eyes and brain. We are able to see because light from an object can move through space and reach our eyes. ...The whole process, as complex as it is, would not be possible if it were not for the presence of light. Without light, there would be no sight.

WOW! Without the light, we would not be able to see anything OR any thing! So what does this scripture say about light and God?

  • 1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

Looking at this spiritually, we now know that God is light. It is God who is shining through our eyes. Matthew 6:22 tells us that the light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single (focused on God and not double-minded), thy whole body shall be full of light. (full of the presence of God!)

So that leads me to believe and know that we need God in us in order to see the world around us and to see it through His eyes and His mind. God’s light and our spiritual sight and our spiritual mind must interact with each other in order to have God’s divine spiritual understanding within us.

  • 1 Corinthians 2:16 ...we have the mind of Christ.

So we have learned that there must be light in the natural for us to be able to see anything around us. There must be light, or God’s presence, in us for us to be able to discern spiritually the world around us and His will for us. We need the Holy Spirit to give us insight into the meanings of the scriptures; to direct us to those who need our prayers and attention; to lead us in our praises.

In summary, if we have God’s light in us to give us spiritual sight and a spiritual mind, then we know that God has changed our lenses; he has changed our names; he has made us new creatures in him. The old things of our “old man” have passed away.

Thank you, Holy Spirit!!!

And thank you for stopping by,

Rachel
