The Power of Connection

In our physical bodies, there are many parts interwoven, overlapping, working together to help us move, think, speak, experience our 5 senses, and live life. They are all connected at some position in our bodies. God has made these bodies not only different from each other but connected in ways at which we marvel. The muscles, tendons, nerves, bones, organs, and everything else are placed with care in just the right positions to fully function and to serve Him. However, when we look at pictures of the internal body, we question how these muscles, tendons, nerves, and bones can function together. They are interwoven from head to toe, on top of each other, and around the various organs and other systems. But God!
Here is an illustration of the internal body systems created in 1905. The intricacies of our internal body are beyond words! But God is our Creator, and He makes them work!

However, trials will come resulting in injuries which may be serious or non-serious, or we are attacked by the enemy in the form of a disease or condition. Trials hinder these connections and our abilities to use our parts (muscles, tendons, nerves, organs, and bones). Therefore, our physical bodies cannot function as God intended them. They are not connected. We need help!

That help can consist of something as minimal as taking Ibprofen or Motrin and resting, or it can be more intensive with a referral to specialists, scans, and/or Physical Therapy. There could be hospitalizations, more doctor visits just to determine what exactly the problem is. All of this takes patience, persistence in finding the right medical person(s) to diagnose and following through with the instructions for healing. When the instructions prescribed by the experts are followed, we are usually healed and begin using our bodies in the way they were made to be used for moving about, thinking, sensing, and living life again! To serve God! Staying connected is important if we want to serve Him!
During my recent PT appointment, the receptionist told me that she was learning so much from the newest therapist - about how everything in the body is connected. The therapist was explaining everything she was going to do and how that would help her to assess my situation and ultimate healing. This statement made me think of how God wants the body of Christ to be connected as well.
God has given each of us various spiritual gifts which connect us to the work of the Body of Christ.
Our bodies have many parts, but the many parts make up only one body when they are all put together. So it is with the “body” of Christ. 13 Each of us is a part of the one body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But the Holy Spirit has fitted us all together into one body. We have been baptized into Christ’s body by the one Spirit, and have all been given that same Holy Spirit.
So God has put the body together in such a way that extra honor and care are given to those parts that might otherwise seem less important. 25 This makes for happiness among the parts, so that the parts have the same care for each other that they do for themselves. (author emphasis) 26 If one part suffers, all parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.
27 Now here is what I am trying to say: All of you together are the one body of Christ, and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it.
1 Corinthians 12:12-14, 24-27 (The Living Bible)
In the same way as our physical bodies, the body of Christ may also get out of balance and separated from each other. Maybe there are some who are being attacked by the enemy so fiercely that they have difficulty in trying to fight these attacks now. Maybe there are some who are experiencing forms of loss and trying to navigate into a new season of life but struggling through it. Maybe there are some who have experienced a trial which has made their spiritual walk difficult. It has separated them from the body of believers, and they cannot attend church or other social activities.
In the body of Christ, we struggle when we are not connected to each other. We need to know and believe in God’s presence with us through all situations, both good and bad. The Body of Christ is available to help reconnect each other to God; to bring about the balance that was lost. We can call on our fellow believers to pray for us, talk to us, visit with us, read scripture with us, help us complete tasks for the church, and simply help to bring the weakened aspects of our faith back together into a solid connection again with God. We will have to go through trials many times in life, but it is OK. The battle is fierce with the enemy, but the battle is God’s.
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14

Everything in the physical body was created by God to operate together, to be connected, in order to fully function. So also, it is in the Body of Christ.
Merry Christmas 2025, and thanks for stopping by,
Rachel
