This was the verse for the devotionals I read recently in "Commanding Your Morning" by Cindy Trimm (Pages 194-194), and it has stayed in my spirit for several days. Not just because of the verse but more so because of the devotional content. It stated:

Until we can embrace the childlike faith that ‘with God all things are possible’ (Matt. 19:26), we will forever be limited in what we can accomplish. How many people of God today are limited in this way by wisdom that comes from the world and keeps them childish and selfish instead of childlike - humbly and openly embracing the possibilities of God that allow them to grow into the fullness of maturity in Christ? (page 194)

I never stopped to think about the difference between “childish” and “childlike”. The first (childish) is lazy, self-absorbed, and undisciplined; the second (childlike) lays down one’s own wisdom and position for that which comes from above, leaning not to one’s own understanding (Prov 3:5), and is disciplined by a love that ‘bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things’ (1 Cor 13:7). (Page 195)

Mike and I have begun a puppet ministry with the pre-school children at Centenary UMC’s Pre-School program. They are 2, 3, and 4 years old. Sooooo precious! But I look in each of their faces, and at these ages, their faces are ones of wide open eyes; wonderment; innocence; absorbing all information whether we realize it or not! They are “childlike” in their looks and behaviors because they are openly embracing the possibilities of God. They may not totally understand some of the songs they sing about Jesus loving them, but they are learning the foundational precepts of faith in God. And at these ages, the possibilities are endless if God is leading them.

Many years ago, I read a quote which said: “Children live what they learn”. It is not very profound, but it is a very wise and true statement. Whatever we are teaching our children from the womb until they are at least 18 years old is what they will know as their foundational precepts. They may choose to change those or grow into them, but that is what they will know.

Thank you to all who teach these foundational precepts of God to your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends! You are the ones who are using wisdom for advancing God’s kingdom. Continue to teach our children that the possibilities are endless with God!

Thanks for stopping by,

Rachel
