Have you ever thought of Jesus as our “Victory Song”? I had not until I listened to a song by Darlene Zschech entitled “You Are Great”. Check it out: https://youtu.be/dY8jyVtOi_M Here I am safe in the arms of my Saviour
Deep in my heart You are with me
Found in Your love I am lost in Your presence
I will not fear You are with me
Jesus You reign, You're the King of Glory
You are my vict'ry song
You are great, greater than the world has ever seen
Higher than the heavens over me
You are great, no one in this world can have Your fame
So let the earth declare Your holy Name, Jesus
Here, at the cross, there is power to save us
Caught in Your beautiful grace
All through the ages eternally faithful
You are the Rock that we stand on
Yours is the Kingdom that won't be shaken
Jesus, my vict'ry song
We stand in awe. we stand in awe,
We stand in awe, Jesus
I began to think about the history of “Victory Songs”. When are they sung; what do they represent; why is Jesus our Victory Song?
We typically hear and/or sing victory songs during sporting events, graduations, personal achievements, or military actions/wars.

After we have engaged in some type of battle, the songs are sung. It may be on a football field, at a school, on a battlefield, or within ourselves when we have that inner conflict. The battles are with outside forces as well as the forces within us. There is rejoicing about our strength in battle and the ability to overcome the enemy. They represent the achievements; the accomplishments; the struggles that were overcome; and the gratefulness of these results.
Think about the Old Testament and some of its victory songs:
After crossing the Red Sea:
Exodus 15:1-2, 19-21 (NLT)
I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously; he has hurled both horse and rider
into the sea.
2 The Lord is my strength and my song; he has given me victory. This is my God, and I will praise him—
my father’s God, and I will exalt him!
19 When Pharaoh’s horses, chariots, and charioteers rushed into the sea, the Lord brought the water crashing down on them. But the people of Israel had walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground!
20 Then Miriam the prophet, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine and led all the women as they played their tambourines and danced. 21 And Miriam sang this song:
“Sing to the Lord,
for he has triumphed gloriously;
he has hurled both horse and rider
into the sea.”

Before and after the battle against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir:
2 Chronicles 20:21-22, 27-28 (NLT)
21 After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang:
“Give thanks to the Lord;
his faithful love endures forever!”
22 At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves.
27 Then all the men returned to Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat leading them, overjoyed that the Lord had given them victory over their enemies.28 They marched into Jerusalem to the music of harps, lyres, and trumpets, and they proceeded to the Temple of the Lord.

We can’t forget that World Wars I and II had victory songs such as “Over There”, “Keep the Home Fires Burning”, or “We did it Before so We can do it Again”.

Yes, it makes sense to think of Jesus as our Victory Song. He battled for us and overcame death and sin FOR US! We can and do sing a victory song for what Jesus did for each of us! Focus on these words from the song above:
I will not fear You are with me
Jesus You reign, You're the King of Glory
You are my vict'ry song
You are the Rock that we stand on
Yours is the Kingdom that won't be shaken
Jesus, my vict'ry song
Let’s keep singing because Jesus has changed our names! Can we do this? Can we do this in those rough, overwhelming times? Do you see what He has done for us and what He is continuing to do for us?? YES, we can do this! We can sing our own Victory Song!!!!

Isaiah 43:1-3 (NLT)
1 But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says,
“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.
2 When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.
3 For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Rachel
