When is the Fog Going to Lift?

Yesterday my husband and I arrived at the mountain top retreat gifted us by some dear friends for Mother’s Day weekend. You see, my Mom’s 98th birthday would have been on May 11 and Mother’s Day is May 12. I knew it would be a tough time so I had an intense desire to leave town for the weekend. Thus, the wonderful gift!

After we arrived, I found that I was planted on the back deck soaking up the view of several ranges of mountains from the far left of my view to the far right. It was so awesomely beautiful! All I could hear were the birds singing/talking so clearly to each other, the wind rustling through the trees, and the quiet “roar” of a nearby waterfall. I had not felt such peace and natural quiet in a long time. The tears continued to flow (it had been a very tearful morning), but I felt that it was just God and me soaking in his natural creation.

I'm not sure what time it was when I went inside, but time for the air to get cooler, and I had no choice. I could live outside!

Last night it rained, and we awoke to nothing but fog. Where did the mountains go? If we had not seen them the day before, we would not have believed that they existed.

It is mid-morning now, and there is evidence of a few close mountains because the fog is beginning to lift and blow away. In a few minutes, the fog may return, but we have seen the mountains!

As I finished my breakfast, my eyes were continually drawn to the window overlooking the western sky and the appearing and disappearing mountains. The words that came out of my mouth to my husband were this: "God is showing me that the fog of grief is beginning its disappearance." My mind has been so totally consumed with the fog, but now it is beginning to clear some.

As some of the natural fog moves away and the clarity of the mountains comes through, I can also see some sunshine on the distant peaks. God’s sunshine - God’s Son - will continue to break this fog. He has been here all along, and he has watched me, held me, supported me, waited on me. He is guiding me through the dense fog to the less dense fog and soon to clarity.

Many of you have already been through this; some may even be going through it now; and yes, others will eventually experience it. Please understand that this is a long process. I know I have more to experience. But there is hope:

Thanks for stopping by,

Rachel
