The Body at Work: A Birthday and a Blessing

We recently had a fun celebration with friends for Mike’s 65th birthday. When this was first planned over a month ago, no one knew that I would have just been diagnosed with blood clots and had a short hospital stay. But God showed all of us what the body of Christ does when someone needs a little extra support.

For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them.

Romans 12:4-6, NKJV

Each person who attended this dinner played a vital role in this event actually taking place.

There were 2 birthday men – Mike and William. It all centered around them.

A month prior, a friend suggested that we get a BBQ meal from a local restaurant – no cooking by us! She called the restaurant, talked over the event with them, determined what needed to be ordered, and confirmed everything with me.

The day before the event, two friends stopped by the local bakery to pick up cupcakes and THE cake. Then they drove 40 minutes to the restaurant to pick up the food. The restaurant was not open on Sunday. Thankfully our friends had an empty refrigerator which could hold the 9 pans of food!

On Saturday afternoon after I was home from the hospital, a friend came over to vacuum several rooms in the house, mop the kitchen floor, and help Mike with several other tasks.

On Sunday afternoon at 3pm, my good friend from Durham, NC arrived with bowls, serving dishes, and utensils. She helped Mike plan the layout of the food and how to make it flow so nicely.

I had strict orders to stretch out in the recliner and not move! A task which I handled very well!

You can see how each person had their role to play. If one had not been able to perform their skills, the party may not have occurred or at least would not have been the wonderful dinner that it was.

I love how God gave me this example to perfectly illustrate this scripture about the body of Christ.

Keep your eyes open! He gives us these examples every day!

Thanks for stopping by,

Rachel
