Sleeping on The Rock

Have you ever thought of your bed as a symbol of your faith? Well, neither have I until a few months ago. Mike and I purchased a new bed – frame, foundation, and mattress. KING SIZE!! How wonderful it is to have that much space!
I was sharing with a friend about what we had to do to put it together because it was ordered online. After hearing my explanation, she said that there was a message in that new bed. And sure enough, there was!
We purchased the mattress, frame and foundation (not box springs but what they call a foundation) which arrived in several boxes. Each box was a surprise in discovering what part of the bed it included. Here are the components:
Ø FRAME: Made from recycled railroad steel which makes it extra strong, supportive, and virtually indestructible. It’s six legs become stronger as more weight is applied. It also comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty that lasts for as long as the original purchaser owns the product.

Ø Foundation: Support structure designed to provide a stable and even base for a mattress. Has 19 wooden slats which attach to the outside wooden framework with Velcro and is 5x stronger than a standard foundation.

Ø MATTRESS: Ultra-firm support. Heavy-duty foam prevents annoying sagging
Supports 550lbs per sleeper (1,100lbs total). 20-year warranty.

As Mike put the frame together, he could attest to the strength of that recycled railroad steel. It was solid and not going anywhere! We questioned the solidity of the foundation with the 19 slats which velcroed to the sides of the frame. Could this really be strong enough and stable enough to support this mattress? We were amazed as it came together because we could see the strength that the 19 slats provided. After sleeping on the mattress one night, it felt like whipped topping on your strawberry shortcake – the perfect finish.
Let’s consider this bed as a symbol of our faith in Jesus.
Is He any match for this Frame? No, He is not a match because He is so much more! He is indestructible; doesn’t need to become stronger because He will always be strong enough for us; and His warranty never ends.
I have pondered the meaning of the 19 slats in the Foundation. I believe that God is saying that they are the pillars of our faith. Our faith is built upon the Rock, Jesus Christ, and as we grow in Him, we are continually building and strengthening our faith.
God is always seeking to teach you the way of faith. Your training for a life of faith requires many areas of learning, including the trial of faith, the discipline of faith, the patience of faith, and the courage of faith. Often you will pass through many stages before you finally realize the result of faith – the victory of faith.
Streams in the Desert, L.B. Cowan, May 12; 1997
As believers in Christ, we must hear, read, study God's promises. Faith comes from hearing God's Word. And once you hear it, you still must make a decision to believe it and follow Him.

What about this mattress? We all know the purposes of our bed’s mattress. Comfort, stability, no sagging. It is intended to be a place of rest for us each night. What about God? Can He be a place of rest for us each night, day, morning? Yes, He can!
He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart.” —Isaiah 40:11
As Mike and I lay on this bed each night, we are comforted as if we are resting in God’s arms. Our faith in the solid rock of Jesus is what substantiates and validates us. If that bed frame isn’t Jesus, there will probably be some sleepless nights of worry, anxiety, frustration about our lives. But with Jesus as our cornerstone, we are believers and faithful followers.
How our faith has grown over the years! So many trials and life experiences which God has used to help us learn about faith, and we are still learning.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
So consider the quality of your sleep. Are you sleeping on The Rock?
Thanks for stopping by,
Rachel
