Summer thunderstorms! Aren’t they awesome? Some may think so but others not.

A few weeks ago, our younger son, Chris, sent a video of our grandson, Austin (2.5 years old), and his encounter with a thunderstorm that evening. The front door was open, and Austin was standing on the front porch watching the storm around them. There was lightning and then thunder. When the thunder clapped, he looked back inside at his Daddy with a questioning look and cautiously stepped back into the house. He seemed to be saying “Daddy, is this OK?”

Just at that moment, Chris encouraged Austin by saying “That’s so cool!” in his upbeat, excited voice. After those words, Austin stepped back onto the porch, excited for more thunder. He formed his hands in the American Sign Language for the word “more” and began saying “More, Jesus! More, Jesus!”

I was thinking about this scene today. It seems so simple to rely on Jesus, but it’s not. When things in life happen, and we aren’t sure of what to make of it or we don’t know if everything is going to be ok, that fear jumps in, even if only for a split second. The fear that makes us question our belief in Jesus. The fear that makes us question if He really is here with us and will take care of us. The fear that makes us stumble, even if only for a moment.

But then, the Holy Spirit brings us back to our belief and trust. It is as if the Father is saying, “Remember, don’t be afraid. It is going to be ok. I’m right here with you. What you see is “awesome”, and I will help you through it. Just believe.” The reassuring words of our Father.

So we readjust our focus on Jesus and say “More, Jesus! More, Jesus!” Give us more of you, Jesus!!

Thanks for stopping by,

Rachel
