Do you hear it; do you feel it? One conversation after another is about doom and gloom - the pandemic and/or the more recent deaths from it; Afghanistan; non-pandemic tragic deaths; crippling diseases. Sadness. Feeling overwhelmed. There seems to be so very much sadness these days. Why is that? I don’t know…Is Satan’s grasp becoming more and more powerful? I don’t know… but I am grateful to know the One who does!

We ask these questions over and over again – why, Lord? Why are these tragic events happening? We will probably never find answers to these questions unless God reveals them to us. However in the following scripture, Jesus gives us comfort:

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27 (NIV)

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3 (NIV)

I heard this song recently, and it's words resonated with my soul and spirit. It is called “I Know” by Big Daddy Weave.

You don't answer all my questions But You hear me when I speak You don't keep my heart from breakin' But when it does, You weep with me

You're so close that I can feel You When I've lost the words to pray And though my eyes have never seen You I've seen enough to say

I know that You are good I know that You are kind I know that You are so much more Than what I leave behind I know that I am loved I know that I am safe 'Cause even in the fire, to live is Christ, to die is gain I know that You are good

I don't understand the sorrow But You're calm within the storm Sometimes this weight is overwhelming But I don't carry it alone

You're still close when I can't feel You I don't have to be afraid And though my eyes have never seen You I've seen enough to say

You are good I know

Songwriters: Benji Cowart / Hank Bentley

The Devil wants us to focus on these worldly events and become heartbroken; angry; disgruntled; defeated. I don’t mean that we become uncaring or complacent about what is happening around the world as well as next door.

But our God hears us when we pray; our God weeps with us; our God carries the weight along with us; our God is good. Our God cares for each and every one of us!

No matter what the next several months look like, remember this:

This is my Father's world, and God is ruler still!

May there be no doubt about this!
