This morning, God spoke to me through the devotional entitled “What You Do With Today Matters” from one of my favorite devotional books, “Commanding Your Morning” by Cindy Trimm. Cindy’s prayer contained the following sentence which caught my attention:

“I break free from the cares of yesterday and will not take on any worries about tomorrow, for You have given me grace that is sufficient for each day in and of itself.” (page 251)

Immediately after reading this, God put the word “manna” in my thoughts. Remember in Exodus when God supplied the Israelites with manna on a daily basis? After crossing the Red Sea and walking into the wilderness, the Israelites began to murmur against Moses and Aaron because they were hungry and regretting their escape from Egypt. At least there, they were fed until they were full. But God supplied them with “bread from heaven” or “manna” as it was called. He gave specific instructions on when to gather; how much to gather each day; and to be obedient to these instructions.

Here are a few highlights:

Exodus 16:13-18, 31 That evening quail came and covered the camp, and in the morning there was a layer of dew around the camp. 14 When the dew was gone, thin flakes like frost on the ground appeared on the desert floor. 15 When the Israelites saw it, they said to each other, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was.

Moses said to them, “It is the bread the Lord has given you to eat. 16 This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Everyone is to gather as much as they need. Take an omer (a heap; a dry measure) for each person you have in your tent.’”

17 The Israelites did as they were told; some gathered much, some little.18 And when they measured it by the omer, the one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little. Everyone had gathered just as much as they needed.

31 The people of Israel called the bread manna. (NIV)

The devotional prayer focused on “grace that is sufficient for each day in and of itself”. God gave instructions to the Israelites to gather as much (manna) as they need.....for each person you have in your tent. They gathered enough manna for each day for those in their tent, with the only exception being on their Saturdays when they gathered enough for that day and the Sabbath. It was just enough to meet their needs - no more and no less.

Isn’t that what God does for us each and every day?

Lamentations 3:21-23 But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;

23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (ESV)

God’s mercies - his compassion - are new every single day. They will help us handle what is happening each and every single day - not the trials of yesterday nor the anticipated worries of tomorrow. Just for today! Just as He supplied for the needs of His people in the wilderness long ago, He continues to provide for us now because “His mercies NEVER come to an end”.

If you read the previous blog post, you recall my fight with the enemy over the puppet ministry and new ideas for topics. I had several encouraging comments/emails and resource ideas from some awesome readers! Thank you so much for letting me know that God is working through you to help me!!

Through this message today, God just confirmed that His mercies are new every day, and He will provide for me/us because “His mercies NEVER come to an end”. He will provide just enough for today!

Thanks for stopping by,

Rachel
